If I write a book, but don't publish it on Amazon or get a publisher and just put it as a PDF on the internet, is that still officially publishing it?

I think it’s publishing it - but I’m not sure it’s officially publishing it. There is a difference, although it’s true that these days - with online publishing in full flow - the distinction is reducing. An officially published book - to me - is one that. has a publisher’s name and contact details (even if that’s only you and your email address or an alias for your “company”) contains full copyright details - date and place of publication and so on lists and acknowledges any third-party material (which should have been formally licensed from the third parties and paid for if necessary) has an ISBN and perhaps CIP data, and maybe even a barcode is registered with one of the copyright libraries is available for purchase (or for free if you choose) has a public profile (however small) If you just your pdf on the internet you are “making it public” I guess, but you aren’t really publishing it. I could be wrong about this but that’s certainly where I’d start. As someone who has worked in all types of publishing from the very formal to the very ramshackle, that’s just my take.

Write on PDF: All You Need to Know

So — are you just publishing your PDF online and selling it as is (though perhaps only to your own customers)? I understand this is a bit of a gray area, but if that’s the case, my first step would be to reach out to you in one of those many ways (by email, snail mail or the like) to confirm that you are in fact, making this your official online publication — and that you are indeed the author. I think that makes it official under the law (although I could be wrong about that). As I said — if I am wrong — I guess, I just hope that some others like you are more astute than I and know the difference. In any case — it may be a different experience to others, but I just hope it doesn’t get complicated. Hope that helps. — Scott [Email.
