How should I learn synonyms, antonyms, one word substitutions, and phrases and idioms, should I write down in a notebook or learn from a PDF for the SSC CGL?
Good vocabulary is imperative for CGL or for any competitive exam because it covers topics like Synonyms, Antonyms, Cloze test, Spelling error etc. We don't have to became vocabulary master rather we just need to score good in limited time and for that limited sources must be followed . 1. First and most important is reading of newspaper daily. I preferred The Hindu. Every day you would find so many new words in it. Have a dictionary with you to search the meaning immediately and save the word. Best part is that most of the words would keep on repeating in The Hindu and eventually these words would stick in mind but you have to remain consistent with newspaper reading. 2. I never made notes of vocab rather I used to save them in the dictionary apps instead of writing them down in copy. It saved a lot of time and best part was that I could revise them whenever and wherever I want and also words are saved in alphabetical order. I used Two dictionary app — 1. English to English and 2. English to Hindi. These modern day dictionaries shows all possible synonyms and antonyms of the word which makes work more easier. 3. SSC is known for repeating vocab, so it is imperative to go through PYQs of CGL,CHSL,CPO, STENO (prelims + mains). A good amount of vocab can be covered from PYQs. Just revise them on regular basis from any PYQs book. I followed the kiran publication book. 4. Make efficient use of Mocks. Attempt a mock and after that just go through the solution specially through the question where vocab is involved whether you have attempted it right or wrong. In the solution, meaning of all the words would be given, which means by single solution you could learn minimum 4 words with their meaning. 5. Solve short quizzes from apps like Gradeup and adda247 whenever you find time and go through solution. It hardly takes 5–10 minutes to do so but returns are very good. If you do above exercises sincerely, you would surely get a good hold on vocab part. Even if you don't know the exact meaning of a word, you can guess the nearest meaning and filter out right option by eliminating the wrong options. I completely relied on the above sources and it worked for me as I was able to score very good marks in both prelims in mains. Work Hard, Stay Motivated and All The Best .) Image sources.
